ARG to Assume Marketing Responsibility for Gulf®
Branded Lubricants in Eleven Eastern States
Bradford, PA and Chelsea, MA – Gulf Oil Limited Partnership (Gulf) and American Refining Group, Inc. (ARG) jointly announced the appointment of ARG as the Master Distributor/Jobber for Gulf® branded lubricants in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Ohio (excluding the counties of Hamilton, Warren, Butler and Clermont).
Under the terms of the Agreement, ARG will assume all marketing functions and marketing related responsibility for the Gulf® lubricant products in this territory, including order entry, sales, product sourcing, product development, logistics and distribution and billing.
In a joint statement, Gary R. Kaneb, President of Gulf and Harvey L. Golubock, President and COO of ARG expressed their belief that "the new arrangement will strengthen the Gulf brand in the territory by placing it in the hands of experienced lubricant marketers and will allow Gulf to concentrate its marketing efforts on its expanding fuels operations". ARG acquired its Bradford, Pennsylvania Refinery from Witco Corporation in March of 1997. This refinery was the former home of Kendall® and Amalie® branded lubricants until those brands were purchased by Sunoco in 1996. The extensive experience of the Bradford personnel in producing and marketing lubricants will now be available to the Gulf® brand. The Bradford refinery is one of only three remaining Penn Grade refiners in the region.
American Refining Group, Inc., headquartered in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, is a refiner and marketer of fuels, lubricants and refined petroleum specialties. It also produces finished lubricants under the Brad Penn® brand and as private label for other marketers.
Gulf Oil Limited Partnership, headquartered in Chelsea, Massachusetts, is a wholesaler of refined petroleum products. Gulf distributes motor fuels through a network of 1800 Gulf® branded stations, as well as heating oil, diesel fuel and gasoline through private brand customers in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
